Project Undertaken

This case study highlights the collaborative project undertaken by Kammac, showcasing our work in supporting Unipart’s contract with the National Health Service (NHS).

In 2018, the Department of Health and Social Care awarded Unipart a £730 million contract to centralise and streamline logistics services into the NHS. Since 2019, Kammac has worked in partnership with Unipart’s Healthcare Division and
provided additional storage and distribution capacity to support the NHS.

This relationship was established prior to the unprecedented demands of NHS hospitals, clinics and surgeries arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Challenges

Unipart’s continuous influx of unique and diverse logistics requests required Kammac to be exceptionally adaptable and flexible, often with little time for preparation. Urgent projects, including critical supply deliveries, demanded swift responses, testing Kammac’s operational capabilities.

Vital supplies have included not only PPE (personal protection equipment such as masks, gloves and visors), but also medical equipment including nebulisers and ventilators; a genuine “life and death” situation.

The strength of Kammac’s warehouse and transport services was tested to the extreme by the demands of the pandemic. These challenges underscored the need for seamless collaboration, clear communication, and agile logistics solutions to meet the client’s needs effectively.

Solutions Provided

Kammac’s distribution network facilitated smooth deliveries to seven of Unipart’s sites throughout the UK. Even during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Kammac was able to maintain national coverage and ensure vital deliveries were made on time. Our proactive approach included standby drivers available with 24-hour support to address transport issues.

The partnership’s unwavering commitment was evident in the flawless fulfilment of the healthcare contract and responsive communication. Kammac’s flexibility extended to offering collection services from any location.

At peak, there were over 62,000 pallets stored across Kammac sites throughout the UK.

These streamlined solutions demonstrated Kammac’s commitment to delivering exceptional service, ensuring minimal disruption for the client, and effectively addressing the partnership’s challenges.
