Kammac is continuously looking for ways to improve our sustainability processes and lessen our environmental impact on the planet. As a third-party logistics company, we are conscious of how our different services can have a huge impact on the environment without the use of an appropriate sustainability strategy.

So, here’s our current sustainability practices and plans to do our part in reducing our environmental impact and protecting our planet.

HVO Fuel

Our biggest achievement and a huge step forward in our sustainability plans is the usage of HVO fuel for our fleet. HVO fuel is Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil, often referred to as ‘renewable diesel’ – not to be confused with bio-diesel. A massive benefit to HVO is the ability to use the fuel as a drop-in replacement for most modern diesel engines. Whilst swapping to electric vehicles is often seen as the way to move environmentally, electric cars and HGVs are both costly and have a negative effect on the environment during their manufacturing and production. HVO fuel on the other-hand provides a company with immediate action towards a decarbonisation plan.

Although, it is important to note that HVO will never give 100% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, it is often advertised as reducing GHG emissions by a whopping 90% – however this is only dependent on the quality of the oil, as it can be mixed with diesel and other fuels. Kammac only use sustainably sourced HVO fuel, granting us the maximum reduction in GHG emissions of 90%.

We’re proud to say that we are working with a number of companies to implement HVO as their fuel source of choice, along with the total of three Kammac sites fitted with HVO tanks ready to go live. The initial plan was to have HVO ready to go live in 2025, fortunately this has been brought forward to 2023 as we push to do more for our customers, our environmental impact, and our planet.

Kammac Go Green Team

As part of our sustainability initiatives, we have also launched the Kammac Go Green Team, including a recent course on our new internal learning management system. The course, completed over 6 modules, includes subjects such as key environmental issues and how individuals can make a difference both in work and at home.

We have a clear plan of having at least 80% of our employees trained in environmental issues, we have seen great uptake so far, with almost 40% of employees having completed the course within the first few weeks.

LED Light Fixtures

Kammac have also been hard at work on transforming our warehouses to become more energy efficient by installing state-of-the-art LED light fixtures across our warehouses. This big investment for Kammac is beneficial in more ways than one, the obvious benefit being the reduction of Co2 emissions. With the project underway, we have a proposed total of 19.9 Co2e (Carbon dioxide equivalent) reduction, a brilliant step forward for Kammac in sustainable practices.

But the benefits don’t stop there… LED lights have a higher lumens output/watt, making them brighter than fluorescent lighting, meaning we are able to use less lights and the end result being safer warehouses.
